Course description

Light in watercolor is one of the most challenging but inspiring things to paint. In this class Maria will show and explain her approach for painting shining scenes. You will discover how the combination of different watercolor techniques and the use of contrasts may create depth and sense of light. The class will start with some brushwork and technique explanations and exercises. Then, a step-by-step painting with demonstration will follow, you will also have time to paint your own picture and to ask questions during the session.

Materials

Maria will use these supplies for the class. You can replace them with materials of your favorite brands.

Paper: 

Arches: 100% cotton paper, cold pressed, 300 gsm (you can take any other paper with the same characteristics), 38x28 cm + paper for exercises and color tests

Watercolors:

- Aureolin, Sennelier 559
- Naples yellow red, Rembrandt 224
- Naples yellow, Sennelier 567
- Orange Sennelier, Sennelier 641
- Rose madder lake, Sennelier 690
- Neutral Tint, Sennelier 931
- French Ultramarine, Sennelier 314
- Green, White nights 725
- Indigo, Sennelier 308 or Payne’s gray W&N 
- Emerald green, White nights 713

Brushes:

- Goat flat brush 3 cm or any wide flat natural brush for moistening the paper
- Round squirrel / squirrel mix / squirrel imitation brush (6-10 mm fits well)
- Small (about 3-6 mm ) round synthetic brush for details  (mixed / imitation / natural will do this job as well)
- Chinese calligraphy brush 6mm - optional

Other:

- Plastic, wooden or carton board
- Cup of water
- Paper towels
- Masking tape
- Food wrap plastic film - optional
